2012 Council Election Results

5 May 2012

After a tough night across the UK, nationally the Liberal Democrats have lost many dedicated and hard working councillors. Although in areas where there was a Liberal Democrat MP we did much better, increasing vote share and gaining council seats (Portsmouth,Cheltenham,Eastleigh,Southport, Cheadle and Colchester.)

Locally it was a mixed bag. In North Herts District Council elections several Liberal Democrat councillors were up for re-election. In Highbury ward, Hitchin, Clare Body narrowly lost her seat by 29 votes; while in Chesfield ward Sal Jarvis secured a great victory by 151 votes.

In Harpenden and Wheathampstead the Liberal Democrats unfortunately failed to win any of the five seats they contested.
