Council lacks any strategy for climate change

3 Nov 2009

Climate Change is a major issue facing everyone and Liberal Democrats believe that we in North Herts need to do our share to combat the problem. It was therefore disappointing to read our Tory Council's recently published Climate Strategy.

While the Climate Strategy outlined the various problems that exist, it did nothing to address them. Two years ago, the Liberal Democrats shamed the Council into signing the Nottingham Declaration. This called for councils to tackle the problems of the local environment. As a result, the Climate Strategy was published.

Lib Dem campaigner Lisa Courts said, "The Climate Strategy produced by the Council lacks any action or ambition by the Council. The Council found that 56% of the computer monitors were left on in the Council Offices, which is both damaging to the environment and a waste of taxpayers' money. It is wrong, at a time when the environment is a major cause for concern to all residents, for the Conservative Council to sit back and do nothing."
