Lib Dem councillors re-elected in Stevenage

Following the council elections on 2 May, there are still 6 Liberal Democrat Borough Councillors on Stevenage Borough Council (SBC). Despite substantial ward boundary changes, we retained, with handsome majorities, our 3 seats in Chells Ward and also our 3 seats in Manor Ward.

On behalf of all our Lib Dem councillors and party members, I wish to thank the voters for, once again, putting their trust in us to represent them on SBC. We shall continue to fulfil our pledge to stay in touch and to look after residents' interests, whether you voted for us or not, or even if you did not vote.

The Liberal Democrats are, once again, the second largest party, and therefore the official opposition Group on SBC, as we were for many years, some time ago. There are 39 seats on the council. It is still under Labour control, as has been the case since 1971. They have 32 seats, we have 6 and the Conservatives have been reduced to only one seat. So, there is now an overall Labour majority of 25.

We will always take our opposition role seriously, as an experienced, effective and responsible opposition, and we will carry on with our ward Surgeries and other work on behalf of residents.
