Lib Dem councillors fund new equipment in Chells Park Playground
Local Liberal Democrat councillors for Chells and Manor have been celebrating a super new children’s playground in their wards featuring something for every age group from almost 1 to 16. Funding for the new playground was supported by funds from councillors Stephen Booth's and Tom Wren's Locality Budgets.
On offer in Chells Park are double swings, a fast whirling carousel, climbing nets, roundabouts and multi-functional activity towers with slides and sliding poles, balancing frames, a trampoline and the piece de resistance, a fast moving zip wire which children leap on and zoom across open space before being ricocheted back to the launch platform.
Provided by Stevenage Borough Council’s Community Direct Services Team, led by Environmental Policy & Development Manager Julia Hill, the playground was formally opened on 13th October by Stevenage Mayor, Councillor Margaret Notley. Her presence was welcomed by the Liberal Democrat ward councillors from Chells and Manor. Group Leader Cllr Robin Parker CC, commented: “We were delighted that the Mayor was able to find time in her busy schedule to open the new playground. This is a terrific new facility for the area’s children, who have long wanted better play facilities in Chells Park.”
Chells councillor Stephen Booth, who is grandfather to triplet girls aged three and three quarters added, “My girls tried out what the new playground had to offer and were delighted. One even grabbed the zip wire seat and was off before we could stop her!”
