Hertfordshire's Lib Dem County Councillors have selected Steve Jarvis, County Councillor for Royston West & Rural, as their new leader
Hertfordshire's Lib Dem County Councillors have selected Steve Jarvis, County Councillor for Royston West & Rural, as their new leader, following the decision of Stephen Giles-Medhurst to stand down from the role after 12 years. Stephen continues as the group's spokesperson for highways. Sally Symington, County Councillor for Tring becomes the group's deputy leader.
Steve Jarvis said, "I am very pleased to have been selected to lead the Liberal Democrat group at the County Council. I look forward to working with the leaders of the Liberal Democrat district and borough groups from across Hertfordshire. All but one of them are now either Council leaders or deputy leaders, following the Conservative collapse in the local elections.
The only reason that the Conservatives are still running Herts County Council is because there were no County elections this year. If there had been they would have been booted out like so many of their district and borough council colleagues. The political landscape in the county has changed."
Across Hertfordshire Liberal Democrats and Conservatives both received 32% of the vote with Labour third on 23%.
