LYNNE DELIGHTS AT THE CONSTITUENCY DINNER

2 Apr 2009

On Friday March 27th the Bell Inn at Codicote played host to the annual Hitchin & Harpenden Liberal Democrats constituency dinner. Lynne Featherstone, Liberal Democrat MP for Hornsey and Wood Green, was guest speaker at the event, which we were very grateful for as she had only recently broken her arm!

Jeff Phillips, our constituency chair, said afterwards "What a great night. It was good to see our local councillors, local activists and loyal supporters sharing a meal and a drink ahead of what is going to be a busy election period."

Nigel Quinton, the Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate for Hitchin & Harpenden, gave a short speech highlighting what the party had been doing ahead of the county council elections and how well the "Six to Fix" campaign was being received by the electorate. He also shared the news that local Tory councillors had apparently been angered by the recent campaign newspaper - always a good sign that we are hitting home on their appalling record at county hall.

Lynne Featherstone MP then took centre stage with a speech and brief Q&A session. She gave a great rallying cry to local activists, pointing out that if she could overturn a 26,000 majority in Hornsey & Wood Green then with a candidate as good as Nigel, we should have no problem overturning Peter Lilley's paltry majority! On a more serious note she spoke about the experience of being one of the MPs in Haringey Borough and the Baby P affair, which had alerted her to a worrying culture in some of our key public services.

There is a full schedule of local Liberal Democrat social events in 2009. If you would like to get involved email the local party through this website. Next up: Liberal Drinks at the Sun Inn (Lemsford) with Nigel Quinton.
