New BBC data gives further detail on how North Herts voted in the EU referendum

6 Feb 2017

Earlier today, the BBC published new Ward-by-Ward data showing how different parts of the country voted in last June's EU referendum. We've known for some time that North Hertfordshire backed Remain by 54.4% overall, based on a turnout of 78.2%. But today's data allows us to see how that headline number translates into individual District Council wards:

Perhaps even more interestingly, we can combine the relevant data from North Herts with the results from certain St Albans wards to recreate the result across the Hitchin and Harpenden Parliamentary constituency. Hitchin and Harpenden has been represented in Parliament for the past 33 years by arch-Brexiteer Peter Lilley - notorious for his 1992 "I have a little list" speech. But on the biggest issue in a generation, he is completely out of synch with his constituents - 60.20% of whom voted for Remain:

So hopefully this is a sign that Peter Lilley's days in Parliament are numbered!
