Hertfordshire's Lib Dem County Councillors have selected Steve Jarvis, County Councillor for Royston West & Rural, as their new leader, following the decision of Stephen Giles-Medhurst to stand down from the role after 12 years.
Liberal Democrats topped the polls across North Herts in the recent local elections with 32% of the votes and ahead of the Conservatives who got 30%. Labour came third with just 26%.
At a Full Herts County Council meeting (20th December) Hertfordshire Conservatives refused to back an opposition Liberal Democrat motion demanding fair funding to support special needs education after it was revealed that Herts County Council received £14.1m less than other County Councils.
